AT&T vs. Verizon
When Samsung debuted the saga at IFA in Berlin, best SIM card slots, it would work in GSM network.AT&T and T-Mobile, GSM carriers in the US alone, while Verizon and Sprint CDMA networks offer the advantage of using the GSM network is that it is often easier to switch between carriers and use abroad simply by swapping out network SIM card.
But this advantage is unable to make a difference if AT&T offers tab saga as device locked carrier similar to the iPhone. Can also be a concern about the AT&T Network tab saga, given the numerous reports of poor data from Apple and the latest data breach at iPad.
Meanwhile, on the basis of Verizon galaxies tab can have the best coverage and speed 3 g But it will most definitely blocked network of Verizon's due to the fact that CDMA device.
If the tab comes to Verizon, will also have ideas on how to access tab to third-party applications. When Samsung announced tab "Galaxy", he said that the device will have access to Android market, as well as branded Samsung app store.
But if the tab saga moves Verizon device can offer only Verizon's CAST In-store applications by default.Verizon has announced plans for your store applications IN CAST last July, after the success of retail applications from developers to devices, including Apple, Google, research in motion and Nokia.
While Verizon says, users can still get access to storage applications such as Android market, as well as IN CAST. competing app stores, however, will not be preloaded at Verizon devices, Ryan Hughes, Vice President of partner management for Verizon told GigaOm. instead, users have to download Android market buy apps out of The CAST.Verizon recently started receiving materials for Android applications, third-party for The CAST.Shop currently offers only BlackBerry application after running late last year.
Saga user Tab on Verizon can also be stuck with a carrier-version of Skype that should be used more than 3 G instead of Wi-Fi Skype mobile on Verizon could only make Skype to Skype calls or international calls. All calls to phone numbers, based in the USA are forwarded to Verizon's voice network. Also, you cannot use the Verizon mobile Skype to receive incoming calls from a mobile or landline phone.
AT&T, Verizon, or both?
Right now, it is unclear whether Verizon or AT&T get tab saga. it is also possible that Samsung will launch a new tablet device on more than one medium in SŠAStrannaâ thing that Samsung does not offer only version of the Wi-Fi inlay saga as Apple has done with iPad. therefore a total of carriers from the saga may prove impossible.
Information about the Galaxy
Tab Galaxy Samsung has a 7-inch tablet device from 1.0 GHz with Android OS (froyo). "the saga has a display with 1024 x 600 pixels high definition 1080p video playback and 1,3 megapixel front faces for video chat." pill also has a 3 megapixel camera with video calls and still capture and led Flash storage options include 16 or 32 models, and microSD slot for optional 32 GB of storage for up to 64 GB of storage is expected that the Samsung announced prices, dates and information on Thursday.

Another week, another batch of nerdery from PCWorld GeekTech blog: this week we look at odd malware, goodies from IDF, hack linux Tablet and a couple of events in the world of robotics. So put on a t-shirt nerdiest, get a cup of coffee and grab your ears Spock. It's this week in GeekTech.
Fourm Intel Developer is darn fun
Intel held its annual Conference TO IDF in San Francisco this week and finally announced transporting date (and I use the term "date of" loosely) for their upcoming Sandy Bridge processors Intel also announced the official name for Sandy Bridge: "Second-Generation Intel Core processor". My that just rolls the tip of tongue, right?
Among other products on the show, THE IDF funky rotation netbook varieties from Dell. Looks cool--even useful--but I have to wonder how much abuse that you will be able to take.

The boy Genius Report Kindly. Walmart announced Monday that he will come jump into the cellphone business with their own branded wireless plan.
New Postpaid plan is called Walmart family mobile will be available starting next week without a contract and so, frankly, a very good deal.
Walmart is a veteran in the cellular market with its two Prepaid plans: General cents, which operates in the network for Sprint and direct conversation, which operates in the network of Verizon.Walmart family Mobile will work on t-mobile USA, the company said in a statement.
The new plan includes unlimited calling and texting for $ 45 a month for the first row and $ 25 per month for each additional row is "Postpaid plan", which means that clients will pay their Bill at the end of the month, but it does not require a contract, so there is no early termination fees apply.
According to Vice President of merchandising at Walmart, Greg Hall, is "perception among customers that prepaid service does not provide access to the best phones or the best quality network" and "Postpaid plan is the best way to avoid the stigma.Basically, it looks like the best of both worlds--early termination fees, or loan does not verify, and does not run out of minutes, because you forgot to Top off.
Walmart Mobile Plan family will be starting next week and will be at least five phones--including Motorola Cliq XT for $ 249 (i.e. 80 dollars less than the contract price less than T-Mobile), up to and including the main Nokia for $ 35.
Unfortunately so far fully equipped smartphone, Cliq Walmart Mobile plan plan family fully equipped smartphone. Data is actually quite expensive--each new row comes with 100 MB of data, but more than it will cost you $ 10 for an additional 200 MB, $ 25 per additional 500 MB and $ 40 for an additional 1 GB of data. unused data never expires, if that helps.
So Yes if you are a current data thief is definitely not a plan for you (100 MB of source data, by the way, is 100 MB per month), But if you're just looking for a good phone that allows you to make calls and send text messages, may be worth looking into.

Yahoo opens data center in upstate New York using radical new design to reduce energy consumption by 40%, the company said Monday.
Datacenter in Lockport, near Niagara Falls, is almost totally cool external air that blows through the halls of long data centre to keep server hardware, cool.
Therefore, data center cooling is not required to provide the cold water for cooling, avoiding one of the most energy-intensive units in the Centre of traditional data.
Information broadcasts will be carried out primarily by hydroelectric power from the local utility, New York Office. Yahoo says it's greenest data center, he built.
There are three halls of the datacenter gives Central operations center, with two more rooms under construction. Located at an angle to the wind and the long and narrow to air flow easily through them. They are a bit like a giant chicken coops, hence the name design: Yahoo computing collaboration.
CEO Carol bartz opens data center ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday morning, the New York Governor David Paterson and U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.
Their presence shows how important data points.U.s. Department of energy have Yahoo provide 9.9 million $ to the price of the property to THE DOE wants best practice energy in data centers, a growing share of energy USA-1.5 four years ago and probably has increased since then.
"Over the past 60 years data centers have always been the niche that does not grow very much, they are very expensive and slow to build. This major shift data center transformation in high-performance data, "said Scott Noteboom, Vice President of Yahoo for data center engineering and operations
Yahoo also opens operations center in New York and said he would create 125 full-time.
Despite the reduction of environmental impact, not all altruistic motives for Yahoo.Through the creation of a data center, which uses only 10% of its cooling capacity--compared to half of some other data centers--Yahoo can dramatically slash their electricity.
It is also steps up to compete with Google and Microsoft are trying to outdo each other with a more effective projects.Yahoo says its Datacenter has PUE (power usage effectiveness) 1.08, as compared to average around 1.9.
PUE shows how much total energy on site goes directly to the it equipment and other types of cooling.«2.0 is only half the energy IT tackles meal and Sep. 0 would mean it is.
Design is similar to the one that Hewlett-Packard launched recently built for large customers.Yahoo has applied for patents on its design, layout, and how air is distributed in the rooms. "There are a lot of people chasing patents in data center design, says Noteboom.
Objects like HP and Yahoo '' s faster to create than traditional data centers you built from factory made parts which are collected on the site Yahoo expects. two additional rooms on site Lockport in six months, compared with 12 to 18 months for the traditional data centre, says Noteboom.
The total area of approximately 36 000 square feet, or enough to House 50 000 servers site may ultimately support 100 000 severs added additional halls, said Noteboom.
Datacenter runs services Yahoo Mail, messages, and Flickr.
A cheaper to build a centre of traditional data, said Cristina page [cq] Director of Yahoo's energy and climate change strategy. "There is an assumption that green is worth more to build, but a lot of these assumptions are not always correctly, "she said.
Servers inside are "off the shelf" products are standard rack, but Yahoo also experiment with own design server during the days when the weather is too hot to cool fresh air Datacenter will use evaporation cooling system. "We may use the fresh air of the vast majority of the year, "said Noteboom.
Yahoo does not say how much it pays for hydroelectric power plants, but said it is wrong to believe that renewable energy is always worth more than power from coal-fired power plants.
Construction that can be carefully controlled, as data center in a shipping container, but on a larger scale of temperature and air. "I computing collaboration Yahoo is just a container anymore, "said Noteboom.

Microsoft requires running Windows 7 phone make a big splash when he wants to make any progress in the fight against Android and iPhone. So the news that Windows 7 phone will be available to subscribers Verizon or Sprint until sometime in the first half of 2011 are bad for Microsoft. At this rate it will never catch up.
Microsoft Senior Product Manager Greg Sullivan told CNet Windows 7 will not be available for phone networks CDMA until some time in the first half of 2011. Between launch and then it will only work in GSM networks.
This means that Verizon, Sprint and not why he didn't run. CDMA? Sullivan told CNet:
"We had to make some compromises. Even Microsoft has unlimited resources: We had to prioritize less to do very, very good. "
Microsoft would do well to do works on all telephony network to the highest priority to addressing prokos vast clientele while surging your competition and your market share is not quite what they teach you in business 101.
Making matters worse is that AT&T has such a bad reputation when it comes to lighting. In addition, Windows 7 phone going head to head against the iPhone on AT&T. Plenty of people sign up with AT&T for one reason only--they want an iPhone.Don't expect many people to abandon their iPhones for Windows 7.
Microsoft doesn't have much of a chance to catch up on the left with Android phones and iPhone this holiday season can be a decisive moment for Windows 7 phone---and Microsoft, ignoring the huge number of potential customers is not going to help.

Playstation Move Arrives

Posted by Kopenx Blog | 5:42 AM

It is not uncommon for game retailers get new products in a day or two at the start and keep them away is stored prior to launch. What makes the approach Sony Playstation moving controller more update.
With retailers, move ahead of the official launch date 19 September, Sony gave green light to start selling on Friday this can't make for cleaner run--Sony spokesperson, Al de Leon, told MSNBC, transfers must be in stock in retail outlets across the country, "mostly"--but at least people who seek the move, you can spend a whole weekend with him.
I'm not sure, review the migration, but journalists mostly pleased technology as they should be. Four years have passed since the Nintendo Wii, so I guess that traffic control was enough time to properly mature beyond the rudimentary set of accelerometers with the IR pointer. And most critics are praising sports champions, move a package per game as a step up from Wii Sports and Wii Sports extension sequel, Resort.
But I think those reviews would have little bearing on the moves the success or failure. Even with sophisticated technology, PlayStation move and for that matter Kinect Microsoft for Xbox 360, not necessarily more attractive products than Wii. they have an initial burden, peripheral devices, rather than the main part of the console, and they must compete with Wii games line-up of four years. Price problem especially for converting, which costs $ 100 to say the least, but another $ 80 for the full experience (some games require additional sticks for $ 50, or other accessory with thumbstick to $ 30). And that's just for one player.
I don't control movement. naysayerMy Wii library has many memorable games that run the concept is brilliant, including Center of Traumatology, WarioWare and Bit. Trip Beat.Although I tend to joystick motion controls have tremendous potential, and the Wii just scratched the surface. for this reason, I hope that it will be possible to move the PlayStation, but it's not going to be easy.

New television ad, promotion of Amazon Kindle closely iPad glossy screen and high price. A beautiful woman and goofy guy in a white t-shirt be uncomfortable talking about their book readers as they sit outside the pool.
Video on embedded below, but it pretty much goes like this:
The guy wrote the Kindle to read the woman next to him at the pool. Hapless dude "iPad" suffered from intense glare of iPad glossy screen. iScreen glare is worst when used outside in direct sunlight while wearing a white t-shirt.

After not being able to read it it becomes a woman next to him (read Kindle) says:

"Excuse me, do you read in the light?"
It is responsible:

"It's a Kindle.
It's $ 139.
I actually pay more for these glasses "
New TV ad takes place after the function I complain since it came out — glossy screens.I hate 'em.
Glossy screens, big on desktops (iMacs) and on monitors (new 27 ACD) where you can control the lighting but this terrible on mobile devices (iPhone, iPod, MacBook iPad) when used outdoors or near a window, in direct sunlight.
For some people it's not terrible, but for me it is a dealbreaker in laptop. I will only buy matte screen MacBook because glossy screens are terrible outdoors and almost as bad in the passenger seat of a car, depending on the amount of sunlight.
Luckily, Apple is now offering its antiglare finish on MacBook Pros, but accusations absurd $ 50 penalty for what should be the default configuration. Tolerate glare on my iDevices, but would prefer anti-glare iPad any day.
Regardless of where you stand on antiglare glossy screen one feature of Apple would be difficult to compete on price.
New ad Kindle shows that it starts at $ 139 (it's also worth noting that this sold). IPad starts at $ 499 — 260% Award for Kindle in today's economy, which is enough space to put a serious dent in Amazon iPad sales this holiday season.

Where is the Droid Froyo for X?
Verizon Initially promised "early September» Froyo update for Droid X, but this is the window with no comment from the carrier or manufacturer Motorola. it now appears when updating can be done in just a few days, thanks to a leaked document is available on Verizon Fonearena.
Droid X is Verizon's flagship Smartphone with Android OS, which makes the absence of official wireless updates for Android (aka "Froyo") is a particularly odd since Verizon and Motorola Droid X released with Android, Droid Verizon also come 2 that came with the Android 2 preloaded and companies also pushed out an update to the original wireless Froyo Droid. Droid X on the left in the dust Droid X owners and Android fans were left wondering if the device is in a position, as they believed.
Why update long roll-out is anyone's guess, but the simple fact that a "flagship" was released already outdated version of the Android OS, then allowed to languish without updating the concern for both platforms, and Verizon.
We haven't seen any official sales figures, but Droid X he sold quickly after starting and life Droid report that have at least half a million Droid'S out there, so it's not like it's unpopular device that makes no more puzzling Froyo.
We hope to be Monday we should see a newly rejuvenated Droid X with parity feature throughout the ruler Droid Verizon's and this should serve as a lesson for carriers and consumers: release devices with earlier versions of the operating system may not be worth the time stored in the rush to market.

The first release of Oracle applications in the long-awaited next generation Fusion will be available in the first quarter of 2011, CEO Larry Ellison said during a speech at OpenWorld Conference in San Francisco on Sunday.
"We knew that we had to make a generation by combining the best features of PeopleSoft, E-business suite and Siebel," he says. "More than five years later, we are finally there. It was a huge amount of work.... It was and remains a great deal of effort engineering. "
Oracle had to reimplement this function at the top of the modern middleware infrastructure, "namely, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Ellison said.
The room has about 10 000 unique business processes, and 100 different products are available at the same time, a version, he said. "We have never done this before and I hope we never do it again. "
Oracle does not go into the cave "in software development, according to Ellison. She performed extensive testing with customers to ensure satisfaction with the user interface, "he says.
Software doesn't look a lot like the E-Business Suite, it looks a lot like the SAP is a modern interface. "
Application available on the premises or on demand by Oracle, he says."You decide" customers can run the software on demand and easily move them at will, according to Ellison.
Ellison indicated that Oracle has no intention of pushing customers on old software for switching Fusion.
"We think for most clients, you need to do is to see how these early deployments go ... you can visit Fusion at the time of your choice: do you know best about deployment of it resources.
Several additional sessions for Fusion applications are installed at OpenWorld, which lasts until Thursday.

Sophisticated worm, steal trade secrets and disrupt operations were infected by at least 14 plants, according to Siemens.
Called Stuxnet worm was discovered in July, when researchers Virusblokada found it on computers in Iran is one of the most complex and unusual pieces of malware ever produced--worm leveraged previously unknown vulnerability in Windows (now patched), allowing it to spread from one computer to another, usually via USB sticks.
The worm exploits the industrial management of Siemens, is nevertheless it has affected a number of plants of Siemens company, according to Simon Wieland. "We detected a virus in SCADA systems [holdout and acquisition management] 14 plants in operation without interruption of the production process and without any damage, "he said in an e-mail message.
This is disturbing news, because according to a new document to the worm is made at the Virus Bulletin Conference this month in Vancouver, Stuxnet could inflict considerable damage, if it is not deleted properly.
Symantec Researchers cracked Stuxnet Cryptography systems, and say that this is the first worm, built not only Špion'te industrial systems but reprogram them.
Once installed on a computer that uses the default password Stuxnet Siemens look and try to gain access to systems, programs WinCC and PCS 7--the so-called PLC (programmable logic controller) programs that are used to control large industrial systems at the plant floors and military installations and chemical and power plants.
The software operates in two stages, after infection, according to o' Murchu Liam leader Symantec Security response.First, it provides information about System Siemens configuration, the server management and control. Then, attackers are able to choose the purpose and actually reprogram the how it works. "They decide how they want PLC for, and then they send the code for infected machines that will change the PLC. "said o' Murchu.
As noted, Wieland plant operations affected in fact does not exist.
Nevertheless, it is of course the possibility, in accordance with o' Murchu. Stuxnet comes with rootkit, deigned to hide any commands, it loads from Siemens system operators. For this reason, Symantec warns that even if you remove the software components Siemens may still contain hidden commands. Symantec advises companies that were infected with a thorough audit code of PLC or system restore from a backup is safe in order to be safe.
Stuxnet infected systems in Great Britain, USA and Korea, but the largest number of infections, to date, been in Iran.
The first samples of Stuxnet date code back in June of 2009, but security experts believe that it probably did not start infecting the system until earlier this year.
Defense contractors and companies with valuable intellectual property affected with targeted attacks over the years--in January, Google said that the purpose of complex data stealing, known as operation Aurora. But Stuxnet marks the first time that someone put the factory floor.
If the worm will be used for the mess on the chemical or propulsion systems, the results can be devastating.
"We definitely have never seen anything like this before," says o' Murchu. "The fact that it can control the way the physical machine is quite disturbing.
Stuxnet hardly likely to new systems at the moment, however. Symantec took the domain to use to send commands from infected machines, shortly after he was found Stuxnet means that hackers are no longer have the ability to send new commands infected systems.
No one knows who is behind Stuxnet but recently Kaspersky Lab researcher Roel Schouwenberg said that most likely the nation-State.
Symantec o' Murchu agrees that the worm is particularly difficult for criminals. "It's definitely not your typical operations, "he says.

In my view, four mobile startups with iPhone, stood tvyst, mainly because they take dead aim at mass market opportunities within the movement more mobile applications.
1. Adrenalin: iPad

The application allows you to research products and share product information and images from hookups on Facebook, Twitter and email. "This is especially important, "said Philippe Suchet, CEO of Zappli", as most users depended greatly on friends and family when it comes to buying decisions. "

Walmart might be a great place to stock up on things like washing and cases of soda. But it is also the place you want to go get the services of voice and data communications for your mobile phone? Giant retail discount certainly hope so, as announced today a new service called mobile phone Walmart family Mobile. Post-paid cellular offers competitive discounts for consumers but Walmart's new service does not have a few drawbacks.
Walmart family mobile cellular discount retailer first foray; it already offers two pre-paid plans. The retailer also sells a wide range of mobile phones and Smartphones, including the Apple iPhone.Walmart Mobile family plan is the first to be branded "Walmart", but despite this branding, Walmart is not functional cellular network; plan would work in network t-mobile in the u.s., Walmart said in a statement.
Since making the switch to cellular communication plan Walmart? Let's do the math to figure out what is good--and what is not so great--about Walmart offering.
PRO: unlimited service, low prices
Walmart family Mobile offers unlimited voice minutes and unlimited texting for $ 45 a month for the first line service. additional lines are $ 25 per month. these prices are much cheaper than what large national carriers for similar plans.
As a point of comparison, AT&T charges $ 69.99 per month for unlimited calls and an extra $ 20 a month for unlimited messages. It's $ 89.99 per month--so much like what Verizon Wireless charges per month for a customized plan that offers unlimited talking and texting.
This is why Walmart family Mobile has to offer "family of three save up to $ 1200 per year, compared with the national unlimited talk and text plans, Walmart said in a statement.
PRO: no contract required
Unlike most "post-paid" cellphone plans--where you cover after using it, not to--Walmart and plan does not require that you commit to long-term service contract. actually, you don't have to take a contract at all if you dodge the signing of two years of work with a carrier like AT&T or Verizon Wireless, the freedom that allows Walmart plan will be very appealing. You can cancel your service at any time, without fear of the hefty cancellation fee.
CON: more expensive phones
The downside of cellular contract-free is always more expensive phones, and it looks like Walmart. According to the Wall Street Journal, one through Walmart family of mobile phones will Motorola Cliq XT, which will sell for $ 249.This is OK, if you believe that T-Mobile sells Cliq XT for $ 330, when you do not sign a service contract. But if you are willing to enter into a contract with T-Mobile, you can get free Cliq XT.
PRO: the numbers add up
But to get free Cliq XT, you need to subscribe to one of T-Mobile even other plans, which start at $ 79.99 per month for an individual plan. This price includes 500 minutes, unlimited voice texting and unrestricted use of the Web.
If you opt for mobile Walmart family, you'll pay $ 45 a month for your first line of the service. As already mentioned that the price includes unlimited voice minutes and unlimited texting plan offers more than T-Mobile in this regard, but Walmart and plan does not include any data coverage that you need to surf the Web or download applications.
CON: no data without borders
So how much data cost you at Walmart Mobile plan family? Data will be sold in the buckets that never expire and can be used by all users on a family plan, "said Walmart. Each activation of the account will come with a 100 MB of data, you can purchase the data upfront WebPaks that card account with 200 MB WebPak. data will cost $ 10, 500 MB will cost $ 25 and 1 GB for $ 40.
PRO: Cheaper data service
Although it is convenient to have a plan that offers an unlimited amount of data is not always the cheapest option. I took a look at my data as Walmart plan would work for me: I am using iPhone 4 and consider myself a moderate consumers data--I certainly don't shy away from any application using AT&T's 3 g network over the past six months I've never exceeds 160 MB of data per month--and most of the months, I was under this amount, which means that the use of Walmart, 500 MB of data can be purchased for $ 25, and it will last more than three months is less than $ 10 per month.
UNKNOWN: select your phone
Statement by Walmart announces new service notes that the absence of a treaty means that a user can upgrade your phone anytime they wish. He also said the service will offer phones from Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, "including telephones with Android operating system, QWERTY keyboard, touch screens and other facilities".
Walmart is not specified how many phones, it will offer and how much each will cost. we have to wait until the service officially launches this month.

Sure, Google Android phones are open, offering unlimited options for customization. That's why they're better than the closed-off, proprietary, locked-down iPhone. Just ask any Android fan, they'll tell you. But that's just plain wrong.
Well, it's part-right. Android is open -- for the telecom vendor. They're free to modify and customize Android as they see fit. And they use that ability to lock users into their crapware and limited options, argues TechCrunch's M.G. Siegler in a post with the pungent title: "Android Is As Open As The Clenched Fist I'd Like To Punch The Carriers With."
This past weekend, I wrote a post wondering if Android was surging in the U.S. market because Apple was letting it? The main thought was that by remaining exclusively tied to AT&T, Apple was driving some users to choose Android, which is available on all the U.S. carriers. In the post, I posed a question: if it's not the iPhone/AT&T deal, why do you choose Android? Nearly 1,000 people responded, and a large percentage focused on the same idea: the idea of "openness."
You'll forgive me, but I have to say it: what a load of crap.
In theory, I'm right there with you. The thought of a truly open mobile operating system is very appealing. The problem is that in practice, that's just simply not the reality of the situation. Maybe if Google had their way, the system would be truly open. But they don't. Sadly, they have to deal with a very big roadblock: the carriers.
The result of this unfortunate situation is that the so-called open system is quickly revealing itself to be anything but. Further, we're starting to see that in some cases the carriers may actually be able to exploit this "openness" to create a closed system that may leave you crying for Apple's closed system - at least theirs looks good and behaves as expected.

The EVO 4G and Droid 2 are loaded up with crapware installed by carriers, some of which can't be deleted. Verizon will likely install its V Cast app store on future Android phones. Motorola and AT&T have locked down the Backflip and HTC Aria, respectively, so you can't install apps without going through an app store -- eliminating one of the great benefits of Android over the iPhone, Siegler says.
Carrier lockdown has slowed upgrades. Only 4.5% of Android phones are running the latest version of the OS, version 2.2, "Froyo." And 35% aren't running any version of Android 2.x.
Update: The preceding figures (which I got from the TechCrunch article), are off. According to the Android developer website, Froyo runs on 29% of Android phones, and just under 30% aren't running 2.x.
Also, Verizon is the only vendor that supports Skype on Android.
Speaking of Verizon, Siegler follows up with another excellent post this weekend, arguing that Verizon loves to provide the kind of customization that cripples phones and locks in users, and that's likely why we haven't seen an Verizon iPhone yet, because Apple won't stand for it.
Carrier lockdown is one of the main reasons why Android vs. iPhone is not a repeat of the history of Windows vs. Mac. Tech bloggers love to draw that comparison, but it's wrong. In the Windows relationship with hardware manufacturers, Microsoft had the upper hand. Because Windows was proprietary, Microsoft always had the power to control licensing terms for Windows. It was a powerful bargaining tool. They used that power to enforce a uniform user experience on vendors, which benefited users a great deal (even though vendors could and did load a lot of crapware on their systems). But Android is open source, and any carrier can use it, giving Google no bargaining power at all.
Not a big deal for most
Android advocates like to boast that they can root their devices, and install whatever they want on it. And that's true -- but it only effects a very small percentage of users, the ones with the time and skill to do it. The vast majority of users can't and won't root. And iPhone users can jailbreak their devices, and get the same flexibility.
Open vs. proprietary just isn't an issue for the vast majority of users. They don't care. Nor should they, they have more important things to worry about, like their jobs and families. They just want a sexy phone that does what they need it to do. And I'm right with them. I have this blog to write, and my business to run, and, when I'm done with that, why, I hear there's this thing called "leisure time" that some people have enjoyed on occasion. I just want my phone to work, and give me some shiny new apps to play with every once in a while.
When I'm recommending phones to friends and colleagues, openness doesn't enter into it. In July, Computerworld published an article by me arguing that the HTC EVO 4G is a better choice than iPhone for first-time smartphone buyers. And that's true -- but it's a thought-experiment. The "first-time smartphone buyer" is a bit of a mythical creature, like a perfect gas in physics, or a unicorn or jackalope. Real people have real needs for phones that kick in before getting into abstract questions of which phone is better in a theoretical sense.
For example: Friday, I had lunch with a colleague at my client Palisade Systems. She said she's looking to replace her BlackBerry, and asked me for a recommendation. I told her I'm happy with my iPhone 4. She asked if that's what I recommend. I asked her if AT&T service is good where she lives. She made a face and said it isn't. I responded, "Then you shouldn't get an iPhone, iPhone is AT&T-only."
I asked her which carrier she used, she said Verizon, and that she's very happy with it. So I advised her to either get the latest BlackBerry -- because she's happy with her 'berry, just wants something with more pep -- or to get a Droid X. I made these suggestions, not out of any theoretical beliefs about "openness" or which phone is better in the lab, but based on what I thought would be best for her.
Hard benefits
Android's openness would matter to me if it gave me some clearly defined benefits, not some theoretical improvements in the future or the ability to make modifications to my phone that don't interest me, and won't pay off until some imagined tomorrow Are there apps available for Android that aren't on iPhone? I'll give you two, and they're big ones:
- Tethering: As Siegler points out, it's not available for every carrier, but it's available on Sprint and other carriers. The ability to use your smartphone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot is huge, especially for (ironically enough) users of the low-end iPad.The iPhone lets you tether, but requires a Bluetooth connection, rather than using Wi-Fi. And it doesn't work with the low-end iPad.
- The Google Voice app. This one is only important to the relatively small number of people who use Google Voice as their primary phone. But I'm one of those people. Google Voice integrates into your Android phone, your Google Voice number just becomes your Android number. Apple blocked the Google Voice app from the App Store, and using Google Voice on the iPhone is a bit of a mess.
What other apps are available on Android that aren't available on iPhone? Please don't recommend apps that let you customize the UI, input method, or perform system maintenance. You shouldn't have to do those things, the phone should just work.

Verizon welcomes applications for its forthcoming IN CAST Android app store, which is rumored to be unveiled at the VCD Conference on 21 September. CAST In the app store was originally suggested a wider market official Android app, but according to Android blog and I will shop is completely independent from Google.
"The CAST of applications is currently accepting applications for Android. If you are one of the thousands of Android developers around the world, this is your opportunity to share your application with the largest wireless network, Verizon wrote his developer page.
App store with the cast function, which currently sells only BlackBerry applications--will work on all mobile phones Verizon running Android 2 such as incredible, Droid, Droid, Droid X.

Application approval process will also take a different approach: rather than being open for any developer, with very few restrictions, Verizon's repository will be similar to the Apple approval process may, in turn, improve the quality of existing products. poor quality downloads has been a problem for Google recently, especially after he became an inventor application which allows anyone to create their own applications. He predicted that the inventor applications can flood the young shop Android with hundreds of lame apps that will confuse and annoy users.
Android and I've listed some of the other advantages of cooperation with THE CAST In the app store: Verizon will release the application approved within 14 days, provides developers with a 70% of the profits and to authorize the purchase of the customer is added directly to their monthly bill.
While Verizon and Google have joined an outstanding partnership, siding with one another on net neutrality, the wireless carrier also distanced itself from Google. Verizon recently ditched Google as default search engine at some of their phones instead of siding with Microsoft Bing--a sign that the possible deterioration of relations between the two companies.
CAST In the app store will be successful alternative to the Android market or will it be a shame? failure for the nation's largest wireless carrier--lesson that one don't mess with Google?

Blaming iPad for more computer industry woes, new trend and he just got hotter with a report from Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty for slowdown laptops.
Huberty research shows that laptop growth is negative for the first time in recent history, 4% in August, compared to the same period last year. This does not mean selling laptops down, this simply means that the year-over-year growth in sales of notebooks is August 2010 is lower than it was in August 2009. in any event, it fits nicely with the quote from best buy CEO Brian Dunne, who says iPad stealing up to half of the sales of notebooks.
This is quite realistic that some people eventually with iPad when you want to buy a new computer. Apple is finally Selling millions of Buying habits are going to change unless the iPad is being purchased in addition to not instead of to other computers.(It isn't). But let's not blow it out of proportion, pointing the finger at Apple.
Consider, for example, the desktop computer sales--especially all-in-one PCs--soaring at months. It's not possible that instead of looking laptop buyers picking up compact desktop PC?
Of course the explosive growth of netbooks in the past year also plays a role in the last month without growth. This time last year growth rate of netbook nearly doubled, laptops after breaking onto the scene in 2008--perfectly timed down economy--there was just no way you can keep up the pace of netbooks.I wouldn't be surprised if slow netbook growth dragging down all selling laptops.
And on smartphones? maybe it's a stretch, but it is quite possible that the ability to carry a small computer in your Pocket reduces the need to upgrade computers.
I'm guessing there's a lot of theory at work here that crazy leapfrogging in tablets, smartphones and netbooks and desktops is having a profound impact on time simply PC market but this is easier--and more fun--blame the iPad, so let's just do it.

Weekend TechReviewSource scored a few photos that Acer laptop with dual touch screen.

What's Wrong with Acer's Dual-Touch Screen Laptop? PlentyI'm not familiar with a website that does not name the source, if the photo to take these items with a grain of salt, but 15-inch laptop that packages 2.67 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and Windows 7 the objective is to release a laptop in the autumn of 2011 is still slow and buggy right now, the source said.

A lot can change in a year, my gut says, this is a prototype that will never see the light, but now I wonder if any computer bodies really think laptop Windows dual touch screen is a great idea to start with.

Toshiba have already tried a different product, libretto W100. It runs Windows 7, but more than a full-featured ultra-portable tablet computer, with each screen, measuring 7 inches. From the outset, Toshiba this creation in elongated, referring to the libretto as "concept PC" with the limited, but at least has some allure, as both e-book reader and a personal planner.

Full-sized laptop, that develops one of Acer, facing more than Toshiba experiment: this will replace the traditional laptop with continuous touch screen keyboards will become a heavy burden. No tactile feedback typing on the touch screen is almost impossible without looking at your fingers. And selecting a would be another source of confusion; TechReviewSource screenshots show virtual trackpad on screen botton, but not this defeat the purpose?, without some really good software to the bottom of the screen, it would just be more frustrating, replacing physical keys, and trackpads.

Besides memory Microsoft Courier is still too fresh in my mind back enthusiastically Windows laptop with two touchscreens. anyway, courier proven that the new operating system, completely built on the equipment can take over the world tech thrills. alleged laptop Acer is more fun and not for the better.

Windows XP users may remember a little right, image resizing application resident from Microsoft is called "Image Resizer Powertoy". You can also keep in mind that XP 32-bit specific and that it does not work on Vista or Windows 7 64-bit operating system.
As its name implies, Image Resizer PowerToy clone is a clone of the tool that works with XP, Vista and Windows 7, 32-bit and 64-bit as its namesake, it makes it easy for resizing the images by selecting them from the Windows explorer and right-click on the "image size" on the shortcut menu.
Once you select an image or picture and select "image size", you may receive the following dialog box that is fairly self explanatory.

A few notes on this one:
Image size (s): supports 4 preset image size, and also the parameter "size" (which just entered it will be remembered for future use).Image size in batch: select as many images as you want and handle all of them at once Custom sizes: for custom sizes, you can type the values for width and height or one of the two; in the latter case, the program will calculate the appropriate resolution (i.e. None), preserving the aspect ratio is ideal for me when creating thumbnails of images that I know what I want to be 200px wide and I don't want to set the height.
Verdict: excellent, easy to program, you must have a context menu often or sometimes you need to resize the image.
Another option that does the same thing VSO Image Resizer; he actually has extra features (such as user-defined styles); but if, like me, you sometimes prefer to easy Image Resizer PowerToy Clone WINS on this front, at least!
There is very little app; Kudos to the developer for making this Vista/Windows 7.

If you are looking for a good, free desktop notes type program then try DeskNotes. I use this program for weeks now, and although it does not introduce any new features or spin on common desktop Sticky notes program concept, it manages to be a very useful and reliable programs yet.
If you happen to use the Outlook may be relieved to know that you can synchronize notes DeskNotes. But even if you do you probably wanted DeskNotes anyway. features include: formatting for notes, bills of Exchange (search) hierarchy, emailing music, timed reminders, notes to hide the tray icon menu system and display them again to view the desktop and the ability to take note of the "toggle" that is displayed on the taskbar and Windows ' Alt + Tab switching text.
There's lots of good free desktop notes software and I first started looking at this one thought to write a post that compares the best free desktop notes applications that host may or may not be implemented in the future; for a while, but what I know now after using DeskNotes for a while that it's a damn fine piece of software that is written.
Here are some notes on this program:
Wish list (or how this program can be even better)
Hide all notes keyboard shortcuts: although quite a few shortcuts that perform various functions like () keyboard shortcut to hide and show notes all at once collectivley and (b editing keys shortcuts. I always wish there would be a scrapbook where notes will minimize as tabs at the top or right side of the screen, but I digress.
Verdict: what I like about this program that you can keep the "clear", notes free desktop if you want to use for notes that can be displayed only when you need them (or have chosen to retain those visible at all times, your choice). I would also like the light on memory and does not weigh down my system.
DeskNotes does nothing flashy: it's just a good, secure, desktop Sticky notes program that does what it does well. it lacks some of the more esoteric features that are there, such as other users, but I never cared a lot anyway. overall, highly recommended.
For other programs, notes, check sheets, Blow Sticker and unusual Sticky Sorter.

If you like () free games, (b) the game with good sound creations and, (c) senseless blasting (or simply blasting in General) and (d) all together in a way that somehow just works then check GunGirl2.
Possibly worse than the Republican takeover of Congress, has taken the world by zombies.GunGirl takes matters into her own hands, missing her gun and head butt some zombies. this game is to shoot em where your character, there's a guy character (GunDude?) that you can choose to pass through various post apocalyptic landscape, lay waste, while collecting powerups and weapons along the way.
More notes on this game as follows:
Powerups: GunGirl can collect little purple "G" (which stands for Grrrl power no doubt) actually capture these increases virility, regardless of the gun, you can use your character. Update: Collect orbs and money and use these to buy all kinds of upgrades and features.Pause the game to gain access to the repository. Save game portals: scattered in the game world.Find and use those-that's the only way to save your progress, they tend to be few and far between IMHO. Weapons: scattered across the landscape, find and use them.Enemies: run the gamut from zombies, respawn soon after you stop the unique enemies that protect certain places.Portable: just unzip and play, no need to install.Soundtrack: merit, as it is very cool! you can download it separately if you so choose.
Verdict: this is a very cool games that you can just run and play without investing in half your day trying to figure. GunGirl2 somehow manages to be greater than the sum of its parts.

If you've ever wanted to measure the time you spend working on various tasks or projects, you should check out this free program.
Freewaregenius 5-Star Pick Sharpening is a list with a twist. This will allow you to create a task list and (optional) the estimated time to completion and/or date, as well as hourly rate charge for payments. But where is it shines is a desktop tool designed to measure the exact amount of time spent on each task: you can pause, resume, or switch targets through a small widget floating on the desktop, or use the "egg timer" widget that can be used to track pieces of time you spend doing something.
The first thing I had to overcome before you use this program was my suspicion that would show that I spend more time than I do admit, loafing around, delays and/or randomly surfing the Web on the other hand I was hoping that the valuation of itself will make me more productive and meaningful (and may have worked).
I say this: grindstone worked better than I thought it would be largely due to the good performance and a good set of tools based on the desktop.
First five six seven things I like about this program:
I could go over all the features that this program has to offer, but instead I will just list the things I love most about it.
Program best management tasks: in General, regardless of the time, the measuring element. For example, this allows you to define custom fields for tasks; for example, "priority" column or the column ' category ' or whatever and will let you group tasks within various views (such as tasks that are due or have your tasks grouped by due date, etc.).Because it lets you define your own fields and groups that you can easily implement any system that you want, such as methodology of GTD (getting things done).
Tool "stopwatch": hovers on the desktop and allows you to pause and quickly launch any task and/or switching tasks via pull-down menu (see screenshot above right and screenshot below).
Grindstone2 Screenshot2_cr
3. away discover: after you leave your computer idle (defined), the amount of time you will learn about time sharpening stone, allowing you to allocate it to any one specific task, if applicable (see below). In practice, I found this very useful, and this makes the program very useful for measuring non-computer-based tasks.
Grindstone2 Screenshot1
4. egg Timer: If you ever thought: "I'm going to spend hours in the morning to react and sending e-mail, and then half an hour working on a project x, then another hour, working on a project y is an egg timer tool is very easy for you. This counter that counted down, and over time, allowing you to accurately measure the amount of time.
5. Reminders: this notification in the system tray, to remind you that you are working on such and such a task every x number of minutes or when almost properly or exceeds a certain percentage of the estimated time to complete this task (set number of minutes that "almost properly" means or percentage complete value in properties). He even has a so-called "holic: deterrnet" option that reminds you that you have exceeded the amount of time that you would like to work on that day.
Grindstone2 Screenshot6
several profile creation: for example, for each client or project. If you want, and if you like methodology GTD (getting things done) you can use the profiles to configure different "profiles" as different lists or different contexts, whatever.
Each of your profiles can have different specific hourly charges (fees that can charge your clients, if applicable), and even different columns or fields that are defined for each profile, you can move tasks (and their histories) through various profiles.
7. installing visit: aka portable Installation is possible via interface grindstone. it will create a fully functional version of sharpening to USB with the ability to export and import data, so you can take it on the road and then synchronize your data back in version when you need it.
Other features of note:
Records: (pie, invoice generation, magazines), time spent on different tasks and other information Autopilot: an option that automatically creates a task based on a program or process that you may be perfect for some people but not for me, I'm afraid.Clipboard paste Tasks: quick and easy way to quickly add a whole bunch of recognizes a carriage-return character in text is clipped, indicating a new task.
Verdict: this is a great program that brings a lot of tools and features together in one place and in a very pleasing way this 5 star "Freewaregenius pick" the reason that ground, it seems that it was created with a focus on useability; all the different features and tools seem like they are there because people use and improved.
If you are looking for management tasks, it will work very well, but I only installed if you are interested in assessing the actual runtime tasks as faras I know it's one of the best programs out there.

CleanHaven-free text clean and processing, the application for Windows, Mac and Linux. It's not just a simple program that converts the text file and deletes (similar to many "email" applications that are out there), but complex, a "Swiss army knife" tool for word processing functions.
Freewaregenius 5-Star Pick
Functions of the proposal covers a wide range, from a simple uninstall conversion and nature (such as excess carriage returns or non-ASCII characters) to concatenate strings, separated by carriage returns in the paragraphs deduping lists of lists (like in the screenshot above), filtration, correct and misspelled words in the text, a general search and replace, remove spaces, tabs, or punctuation marks and grid view, where you can manipulate your text in the grid table style, to name a few.
This is the kind of program that may give a reviewer, in that it offers a wide range of functions, it becomes impossible to cover them all. so I decided to combine various functions in a single image instead, which probably could better illustrate that the suggestion here at a glance without my having to explain them all. see the image below.
CleanHaven functions
Here are some notes on this program:
Interface: very nice there are 6 tips in the main, which offer a variety of functions (see picture above), but what good is it that you know how to use text and then use the results in the output window as your source text to string together a series of events quickly.Table: CleanHaven supports table view in which you can paste text from within Excel, from the CSV file, or any other source and view them within CleanHaven in the grid.He even recognizes the first row as column headings, and let you click on the title to quickly sort your text.(Note: the settings tab to define columns that use CleanHaven when performing operations such as deduping, etc.)Export to CSV: or tab-delimited text files are supported
Verdict: CleanHaven is unique in two communications; firstly, width, and a huge range of options for text manipulation, that it proposes and the second in cascading style sheets in connection with power packs under the hood may seem a tad too complicated at first glance, if all you want to do something simple as simply truncated lines via email in one location; however, it only takes a minute or so intuitively figure out exactly what you need to do to get the results you seek.
But more impressive was his processing tables you shouldn't expect this program to process large amounts of data (box 200 000 rows in 5 columns from Excel, and then switch to Datasheet view to crashed programs); However, for the most "normal" tables and list management tasks, it will be fine.
This program is definitely a keeper. no matter what you do, or how you use your computer, you can definitely use this in your collection tools; it will always come in handy, and it will deliver beautifully.

XP mode in Windows 7
There are a handful of free machine virtualization programs out there, such as VirtualBox, VMWare, and of course Microsoft’s Virtual PC. These programs will let you run another instance of an operating system within your current operating system. The only problem is that, unless you’re virtualizing Linux or another free OS, you will need a working license to run a virtual instance of a Windows OS (as well as an installation CD or ISO file of course).
What you may not have known, however, is that if you’re a Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate user (32 or 64 bit), Microsoft actually provides you with a full fledged, fully licensed instance of Windows XP that you can run within your Windows 7 environment, which they refer to as Windows XP mode. In fact, Windows XP mode will let you run virtualized Windows XP applications straight from your Windows 7 desktop or start menu, via a virtual remote desktop connection, just as if they were installed locally on Windows 7.
This tutorial will present, for those editions of Windows 7 that support it, a step by step guide for getting you up and running your virtual Windows XP instance from within Windows 7.
Step 1: Determine if the version of Windows 7 you are running is supported.
To do this, right click “properties” on the “Computer” icon on your desktop or the right hand side of your start menu, then check the “Windows edition” section (see the upper red arrow in the screenshot below). If you do not have the Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions then this tutorial will not apply, and in that case you will need to get your hands on a Windows XP CD and a valid serial number.
Also check the “system” section to see whether you’re running a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows 7 (the lower red arrow); you will need to know this for the next step.

Step 2: visit the XP Mode download page. Once there enter your Windows 7 information and then use the three buttons on the bottom to download the needed files.
Note: before you download, Windows may install a “Windows Genuine Advantage” update to check whether your Windows license is authentic. So bear that in mind.
Follow the instructions, i.e. download and install “Windows XP Mode” first (a 500 meg download; you will have to reboot), then “Windows Virtual PC”, then “Windows XP Mode Update”. Note that once you install XP mode you can delete that 500 meg installation file.

Step 3: launch Windows Virtual PC “XP Mode”. It may will launch automatically once installed or, if not, go to the start menu and type “XP Mode” in the searchbox then click on the shortcut that appears on top.
Error?: if you get the error in the image below you may need to tweak your BIOS settings to enable hardware assisted virtualization. Restart your PC and get into your BIOS setup (getting there is different for different PC makes; for my Dell I got there by pressing F2 while booting). Find your “virtualization” setting and enable hardware-assisted virtualization; save and exit.

Step 4: Setting up Windows XP mode: this is fairly self explanatory, just go through the process.
Hard disk space: approx 2 or more gigs of free space are required to run XP in virtual mode properly. If you don’t have this on your C: drive, or if you simply do not want the large file on your C: partition, make sure to change the location in the setup process when it asks for the installation folder (see screenshot below).

By default, Windows Virtual PC will set up drive sharing with your main Windows 7 OS, allowing you to access your Windows 7 drives as networked drives from within the virtual Windows XP.
At the end of the process, your virtualized instance of Windows XP will be launched (see screenshot at the top of this post). You can now use your virtual instance of XP normally, installing apps, etc.
Reverting to a fresh instance of Windows XP: if you want to create another instance of Windows XP or revert to a clean instance, simply delete or rename the files in your installation folder and then re-run XP mode. You will be asked if you want to create another instance from scratch.

Step 5: accessing your Windows 7 hard drives from XP: in “my computer”, your Windows 7 partitions, CD drives, and other volumes will appear as networked drives(see screenshot below).
Screenshot5; shared volumes
Note that USB/flash drives can be accessed from the XP instance via the “Action” menu (see screenshot below). Note, however, that Microsoft Virtual PC will invisibly unplug the drive from Windows 7 in order to make it available to the XP instance.

Step 6: running “XP mode” applications from within Windows 7. Once you install programs within your virtualized Windows XP, shortcuts for these programs or even any documents inside the XP instance actually appear inside your Windows 7 start menu. You can simply run these from the Windows 7 environment.
These shortcuts will have “XP Mode” appended to them in the Windows 7 start menu. Typing “XP Mode” in the Windows 7 start menu search box will display these (see the screenshots below).

Presumably, this would be needed if your program runs on Windows XP but not on Windows 7, or for the purposes of testing software.
